Suggested activity sequence

This sequence is intended as a framework to be modified and adapted by teachers to suit the needs of a class group. If you assign this activity to a class, your students will be assigned all student resources on their 'My learning' page. You can also hand-pick the resources students are assigned by selecting individual resources when you add a work item to a class in 'My classes'.

  1. Explain to students that while there are several business structures that people can choose when they establish a business, some will better suit their needs than others. Tell students they will be exploring this themselves by using the Australian Government Business website.
  2. Display the business.gov.au website on a whiteboard or screen.
  3. Discuss the following:
    • Why this website might be a source of the most reliable and credible information.
    • What information does the website include?
    • How can businesses use this website to support them?
    • Why does the government provide this support?
  4. Students read the explainer or read it as a class.
  5. Students complete the worksheet. As part of the worksheet, students will be required to complete the online quiz and complete an ABN application using the ABN simulated online form.
  6. Use a reflection strategy for students to reflect on their learning, such as a reflection pyramid or a 3-2-1.
