Suggested activity sequence
This sequence is intended as a framework to be modified and adapted by teachers to suit the needs of a class group.
- Use a grouping strategy to organise students into groups of 4.
- Students:
- Groups discuss:
- their findings and agree on the different perspectives about the Australian Government’s introduction of income tax
- why different views existed.
- To promote collaborative and purposeful talk, use the talking cards.
- Conduct a class discussion on group findings. You might find the following questions useful:
- What were the arguments for the introduction of an Australian Government income tax?
- What were concerns raised about the introduction of an Australian Government income tax?
- Why do you think both major political parties agreed to impose a federal income tax even though concerns existed?
