This year our judges for the competition are:
Rachelle Willington
Curriculum Specialist, Humanities and Social Sciences
Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA)
Rachelle is responsible for the Australian Curriculum: Humanities and Social Sciences and the Cross-curriculum priority: Asia and Australia’s engagement with Asia. Rachelle led the development and review of the F–10 Australian Curriculum: Humanities and Social Sciences learning area. She has participated in several national projects including the recent Constitutional Education Fund resources project.
Rachelle is an experienced educator that has worked in both P-6 and 7-10. During her career she has been a classroom teacher, HASS curriculum coordinator, curriculum adviser for the Queensland Department of Education and HASS curriculum specialist at QCAA.
Andrew Watson
Deputy Commissioner
Individuals and Intermediaries
Andrew Watson is Deputy Commissioner Individuals and Intermediaries at the Australian Taxation Office.
Andrew has responsibility for the delivery of improved outcomes for individuals that make it easier for them to comply with their tax obligations. This includes education programs, consultation, online services, data analytics, advice and guidance and compliance activities. Andrew is also responsible for working closely with tax professionals as key stakeholders in supporting taxpayers to meet their obligations.
He has over 30 years of experience in the Australian Taxation Office and in that time Andrew has held a number of key leadership positions in the ATO with a focus in recent years on supporting small businesses and leading technology change.
Andrew holds a Bachelor of Economics from the University of Adelaide and a Masters of Business Administration (Public Sector Management) from Charles Sturt University.
Sonia Corsini
Assistant Commissioner
Individuals and Intermediaries
Sonia is Assistant Commissioner of Engagement and Support for the Individuals and Intermediaries audiences at the ATO.
She has responsibility for strategies that provide individuals and tax practitioners with the knowledge, tools and support to comply with their tax and super obligations. This includes actively managing the relationship with the tax profession, involving a number of ATO consultative forums. Sonia has more than 17 years of experience within the ATO with roles across compliance, law and corporate governance.
Sonia is passionate about cultivating a culture of innovation within a diverse and inclusive workplace and is a strong supporter of career development programs for new and emerging leaders.
Sonia holds a Masters of International Tax (UNSW), a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Adelaide, and is an Accredited Mediator.
Katherine Philp
Assistant Commissioner
Marketing and Communication
Kath is Assistant Commissioner, Marketing and Communications at the ATO.
She leads a large team working to communicate and engage with millions of Australians in the tax, superannuation and registry systems. Kath has worked in government for over 15 years and her previous roles include working at the Bureau of Meteorology as General Manager, Government Relations and Corporate Communication. Her passion for communication was honed in her earlier career as a journalist where a she held roles including senior political correspondent and executive producer at Network Ten and the ABC.
