In this activity, students investigate the living standards of different countries in the Asia region. They locate display and interpret data to explain the relationship between living standards and taxation systems (tax revenue and spending). They collaboratively model the consequences of significant reductions to government spending to further explain this relationship.

In this activity, students learn that if they choose to undertake future training or study, there are a number of loans available from the Australian Government to help them. They explore the loans that are available and the process of repayment through the taxation system.

Students learn that spending more money on one government service will require compensatory action, such as borrowing, selling state-owned assets, reducing spending on other public goods and/or increasing taxes.
